We came across the lamps during a recent New York Gift Show. Walking by hurriedly, we glanced over and were drawn. The lamps stood out, as did the charming company president, Thomas Zhao.

Although much of what's made in China doesn't reflect great design and craftsmanship, Zhao's lamps surprised us: the creative use of different colors of jade, sturdy construction, and attention to style. Also, we could tell that Zhao's family, who've run the company for three generations take great pride in their work.

Made in Shanghai of porcelain, jade, bronze and lacquer, these lamps reflect both traditional and modern oriental style.
